Do your part to stop Global Warming

Global WarmingDear readers,

I promise this post is as close to something political as you will ever see anything written on Kids Stuff World. Normally, I wouldn’t bring them up in our happy space, but this cause deserved some action on my part. A while back, I joined a group called 350.org. There goal is to put an end to Global Warming. The number 350 comes from a few scientists who have figured out that number 350 (in parts per million) is the key to balancing our earth’s atmosphere and preventing rapid climate change.

The 350.org mission, for the moment, is to gather as many personal invitations from US citizens asking the next elected president to attend a summit to develop an international climate treaty. They’re asking normal folks like you and me to send a quick (pre-written) email to the White House. They collected over 24,000 so far but would like to gather as many as 35,000!!!

Interested? Please visit www.350.org/invite to learn more about the organization or to send your personal invitation to our next Commander In Chief

It’s the least we can do for mother nature…

Let Maggie be the judge

Climate Change Video Contest

Do you have something to say? Looking for a way to get your message across to millions of people? Would you like to let the political leaders know how you really feel about global warming and the environment? Well, here’s your chance and all you have to do is impress Maggie.

“We know Americans are inspired to take climate action; they’re already taking steps everyday,” said actress and Climate Matters juror Maggie Gyllenhaal. “I’m excited to see what people create.”

Brighter Planet and 1Sky have introduced the Climate Matters Video Contest to give Americans the chance to have their global climate change message seen by our next president and other political leaders. Anyone can enter – all they need is a little inspiration, a desire to help the planet and a video camera. This October, the top 10 videos will be featured during a Washington D.C.-based event for the media, Congress and both presidential campaigns. These top videos will also be broadcast to millions via Link TV, FSTV, and online at venues including www.think.mtv.com

To enter the Climate Matters Video Contest, contestants can upload a 30- or 60- second video encouraging bold climate change action to the Climate Matters website . Videos must relate to the topic of climate change and be uploaded between now and September 22, 2008. The winners will be announced on September 29, 2008.

The winner of the Climate Matters Video Contest will receive a $3,000 Brighter Planet Visa Gift Card; the second and third place winners will receive $1,000 and $500 Brighter Planet Visa Gift Cards respectively.

Ways to Save While Going Green – #1

Do you currently use a liquid additive in your dishwasher to help clean glass, cut grease, or prevent spots? If you do, STOP wasting your money now. Those additives cost $2-5 a pop and are doing the same things you can get by simply adding an ounce of distilled white vinegar instead. Start adding 1 oz. of vinegar to your dishwasher’s liquid compartment today and you will immediately see the difference. Squeaky clean glasses, no more greasy residue, not to mention the fact that you’re saving a few bucks and helping the environment. Go on, try it. You’ll be glad you did.

Got any other great tips on how to save $$$ while going green? We’d love to hear them, send your ideas to us at kidsstuffworld @ gmail dot com. If we post your idea, we’ll be sure to add a link to your site/blog. Submit enough ideas and we’ll feature you as well.

Could You Use 6 Months of FREE Diapers?

We thought so. Amazon is running a special offer for all new and existing registry customers. For a limited time, if you, your friends or your family complete $750 of purchases in your registry they’ll give you six months worth of Seventh Generation diapers. Registry purchases must be made between July 1st and September 30, 2008 to qualify

Just make sure anything you buy to prepare for your baby goes on the registry. After purchasing a stroller, crib bedding, and portable crib you’ll be well on your way to free diapers. Let your shower guests know about the deal and be sure to ADD every possible item to your registry, The more people have to choose from, the more chances you have to get FREE diapers. This really is a simple offer, no hidden gimmicks. Just 6 months worth of non-toxic chlorine free diapers.
